January 20th, 2012 by Jose Hall

Landlords may be looking to the deals that could be had in Scotland, if recent statistics are anything to go by. That’s because towns and cities north of the border are home to the UK’s most affordable housing, Bank of Scotland revealed this week (January 16th).

Mortgage payments for new borrowers in Scotland through the second half of 2011 cost the lowest proportion of disposable earnings for nine years, according to new research from the organisation.

Lloyds TSB car insurance transfer put my premiums up 475%

January 12th, 2012 by Laura Young

My car insurance renewed automatically at the end of November. It was with Lloyds TSB the previous year, and I had been told via letters that they were changing to a company called BISL. I could not believe it when my December direct debit came out of my account and, compared to the £40 I’d been paying, it had shot up to a whopping £230.

I called BISL today and yes, apparently my premium has jumped to more than £2,500. I had been sent no correspondence about the change in my premium and was given no chance to refuse such a hefty price. I

P-C leaders say market hardening, financial crisis in back window

January 11th, 2012 by Jose Hall

Not only do property-casualty insurance industry leaders believe the financial crisis is behind them, but they also believe rates are hardening, a new study finds.

A slightly smaller percentage (72%) of respondents believe the industry is on the road to recovery.

“The consensus among forecasters is for growth of the U.S. e

Song written for Paul McCartney’s wife to be released

December 28th, 2011 by Laura Young

Fans of Paul McCartney, who are looking to invest in wedding insurance, may be interested to hear the singer is to release a song he wrote for his nuptials.

Entitled My Valentine, the track is said to be an ode to his new wife Nancy Shevell and was performed by the singer at his big day, the Daily Mirror reports.

Despite having tied the knot twice previously, it seems McCartney believes he has found the one in Ms Shevell as the tune includes the lyric “Ill love her for life”.

McCartney, who married and later divorced Heather Mills upon the death of his first wife Linda McCartney, exchanged vows with Ms Shevell in October.

The couple had a low-key ceremony at Marylebone Register Office and posed for photographers outside the venue after saying I do.

My Valentines lyrics suggest McCartney was concerned he would not find love again after splitting from Mills.

Shelter publishes eviction research

December 18th, 2011 by Jose Hall

Rent guarantee insurance and tenants referencing could be useful for landlords in London.

This is because research from Shelter has revealed this area has the highest proportion of people at risk of eviction in England, with households in Manchester, Peterborough and Slough also at an elevated likelihood.

Rates of this problem are more than one-and-a-half times those typically seen nationwide in Knowsley, Newcastle and Nottingham and although greater levels are usually seen in urban districts, individuals in Bedford and west Lancashire were also affected more than the national average.

Places with high levels of unemployment were also the most significantly affected by the problem and every two minutes, a person in England faces losing their domicile.

“Shelter research shows that a third of people are already struggling with their housing costs or falling behind on payments,” chief executive of the housing charity Campbell Robb said.

The organisation notes legal procedures are usually required when private landlords intend to evict their tenants.
