February 16th, 2012 by Laura Young

When Elizabeth Gilbert traveled the world looking for food, spirituality and romance for her book, “Eat, Pray, Love” she encountered various unexpected situations, some of them gastronomical. If she needed anything to help her with her tour, it would have been travel medical insurance.

While we don’t know whether she did purchase insurance, because the trip was all about soul-searching, her expansive itinerary with an incidental trip back to the U.S. meant

Personal Touch unveils multi-tie protection panel

January 28th, 2012 by Laura Young

The network has reached an agreement with six providers – Ageas, Aviva, Friends Life, Legal & General, LV= and PruProtect – to offer their products on the Integrity panel.

It will feature enhanced commission rates with no loaded premiums for the end client and targeted sales training with dedicated support to help them maximise sales.

The panel has been scheduled to launch in November and members will receive an information pack with further details.

“We envisage that the new panel will provide an extra impetus for our members to continue to develop protection as a core offering to their clients,” said Dev Malle, sales and marketing director at Personal Touch.

“Every player is offering the two and four year indemnity option with Aviva offering a three year option.

“We’re also working with our panel partners to develop models to help our members build sustainable businesses by being able to gradually move towards renewal income instead of being hooked on the indemnity drug.

“We’ve also insisted that there are no loaded premiums,” he added.

Lloyds TSB car insurance transfer put my premiums up 475%

January 12th, 2012 by Laura Young

My car insurance renewed automatically at the end of November. It was with Lloyds TSB the previous year, and I had been told via letters that they were changing to a company called BISL. I could not believe it when my December direct debit came out of my account and, compared to the £40 I’d been paying, it had shot up to a whopping £230.

I called BISL today and yes, apparently my premium has jumped to more than £2,500. I had been sent no correspondence about the change in my premium and was given no chance to refuse such a hefty price. I

Song written for Paul McCartney’s wife to be released

December 28th, 2011 by Laura Young

Fans of Paul McCartney, who are looking to invest in wedding insurance, may be interested to hear the singer is to release a song he wrote for his nuptials.

Entitled My Valentine, the track is said to be an ode to his new wife Nancy Shevell and was performed by the singer at his big day, the Daily Mirror reports.

Despite having tied the knot twice previously, it seems McCartney believes he has found the one in Ms Shevell as the tune includes the lyric “Ill love her for life”.

McCartney, who married and later divorced Heather Mills upon the death of his first wife Linda McCartney, exchanged vows with Ms Shevell in October.

The couple had a low-key ceremony at Marylebone Register Office and posed for photographers outside the venue after saying I do.

My Valentines lyrics suggest McCartney was concerned he would not find love again after splitting from Mills.

PPI redress soars to over £750m

December 12th, 2011 by Laura Young

According to latest figures from the FSA, £220m was paid out in September to customers complaining about being previously mis-sold the product.

This took the overall total to £776m.

September’s figure is slightly below the August high of £239m and although still significantly higher than other months, it potentially indicates that the peak may have been reached.

However the pain may not yet be over yet, as earlier this month the Financial Ombudsman Service announced it was considering increasing its levies to the industry as a result of a spike in PPI claims.

The ombudsman said it had seen claims rise climb from less than 1,000 per week to over 3,000 in recent months.

December 7th, 2011 by Laura Young

During your insurance marketing presentation, ask your customer what he or she is looking for. A low rate? A local agent? Just to compare rates? Or something in the coverage he or she hasn’t gotten before?

Once you have an idea of what the customer’s chief priority is, you can craft your presentation with a focus on that topic. That way, you can avoid the customer’s later objections altogether. Any q
