Au Pair Insurance: To Care for the Caregiver

November 22nd, 2011 by Laura Young

For families with young children, where there is no parent available around the clock for care, hiring an au pair is a great idea. Au pairs are governed by U.S. law, and au pairs are required to have au pair insurance that satisfies certain criteria. Bernie Ecclestone claims daughter’s wedding cost £12m

November 13th, 2011 by Laura Young

Petra Ecclestone is one celebrity who may have insisted on investing in wedding insurance, after it was revealed her big day cost £12 million.

The heiress tied the knot with her long-term boyfriend James Stunt in August at an elaborate ceremony in Italy.

When asked about the nuptials during the high-profile fraud trial of German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky, the brides father Bernie Ecclestone revealed he was shocked at the total bill.

However, the 81-year-old claimed he had little say in how much was spent as much of the planning was left to his ex-wife Slavica.

“When it was suggested how much they would be spending on drinks, I thought it was absurd and I managed to upset my daughter and my wife,” Ecclestone commented.

The Formula One mogul is a self-made billionaire, who started his career working in a London gasworks after leaving school at 16.

He is now thought to be worth an estimated £2.5 billion.

Sanchez stands accused of faking his own death to secure a life insurance payout of £1m for his wife.

His wife Sophie told his employers he died in South America, but suspicions were aroused when his fingerprints were allegedly found on his death certificate.

Mrs Sanchez is currently serving a two-year prison sentence after admitting her part in the fraud.

Financial product complaints up by a quarter

October 17th, 2011 by Laura Young

Complaints about financial products soared by almost a quarter between July and September 2011, according to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).

The ombudsman experienced a 24% increase in complaints, excluding payment protection insurance (PPI), in the second quarter of 2011-2012, taking the total to 31,386 compared to 25,276 received in the same period of 2010-2011.

Outside of PPI complaints, which decreased from 56,025 cases in April-June 2011 to 19,259, but still accounted for 38% of the total, the ombudsman said the financial products that consumers complained about the most included credit card accounts (11.5%), current accounts (8.5%), mortgages (5.5%) and car and motorcycle insurance (4%).

Between July and September 2011 there was a 40% rise in complaints about deposits and savings, a 37% rise in mortgage complaints, a 23% rise in the number of complaints about overdrafts and loans, and a 22% increase in complaints about motor insurance.

The percentage of PPI complaints upheld in favour of the consumer increased to 92%, boosting the total number of cases in which the consumer has won to 80%. Full Post…

Evacuation Insurance: A Friend in Need Indeed

October 10th, 2011 by Laura Young

When traveling internationally, the last thing you want to be thinking of is being evacuated to safety, an expensive proposition, no doubt. When it does happen, medical evacuation insurance can help defray the costs associated with it. While we are mostly concerned about evacuation to the closest medical center in case of a medical emergency, it is possible that you would want to be evacuated to your home country as well.

There are plans to cover both types of evacuation.
