One of the things that you will almost always hear about is the many horror stories involved with living in a condo that is policed by an association. It really takes a special kind of person to be able to live enjoyably in certain condominium complexes. If you are young and enjoy having guests for example you may want to think twice about living in a condo. There are of course some condo associations that are more lenient than others but often you do not find out about how strict they are until after it is too late and you have moved in.
There have been stories of people being taken to court for not having the proper california condo insurance and there have even been people who have been asked to move for something as minor as failing to maintain their outside light bulbs. The severity of the frivolous complaints lodged against people who live in condos will always depend on the particular association but to be honest it does not vary much at all.
There was one elderly woman whose children were killed in a car accident leaving her custody of her young granddaughter. When her granddaughter came to move in the association acted right away by first sending notices that the condo was age specific and that the girl was too young and could not stay. The woman, of course, fought this and hired an attorney but in the end the association won and the woman was forced to sell her condo and move.
There was also a story about a man who had a large breed dog and had lived in the condo for years. A new association was brought in that determined large dogs were no longer allowed and gave no grandfather clause to this new rule. This meant the man was forced to choose between his home and the dog. When you are dealing with a living creature that has become a valued companion there is no amount of condo insurance in Georgia that can cover this type of loss, not even in your wildest dreams.
